Graph Widget Basics
As explained in other articles, there are many graph widgets to choose from when customizing your Live Feed Page in the Social Media Command Center. With the exception of the Volume Widget, which just shows the raw aggregation of data in the Live Feed of the topic, all of the widgets show the most popular sub-entities of the type of entity represented in the graph. By hovering your cursor over any of these types, the respective representation for that type will be highlighted on the graph. In addition, clicking on any of the types in the list to the right of the graph will show the respective graph broken down into the most frequently occurring sub-types of the type selected for the time span of an hour. For example, the Geolocations Widget shows the most common geolocations identified in the documents in the Live Feed over the past hour. If you clicked on the 'United States' type in the list to the right of the graph, the graph would now be categorized into the most common states of the United States mentioned. Clicking on a state will in turn divide the graph into the most common counties/regions of that state appearing in the documents. However, this change in representation of data only applies to the widget in which the changes occurred. As you click deeper into graphs, the chain of entities used will appear at the top of the list of common entities. Click on any of the entities in the chain to return to a previous state of the graph.
The exception to this rule is the URL, Types, and Sentiment Widgets. Since these do not contain entities that can be divided into sub-types, clicking an entity will apply a filter to the entire live feed. Because of this, these widgets do not have the 'filter' icon described below.
To apply changes made in a widget to the entire Live Feed, click the 'filter' option at the top right corner of the widget. After doing this, the filter on the widget will be applied to the entire live feed. For example, clicking 'United States' in the Geolocations Widget, then applying a filter will allow only the documents to appear in the live feed that adhere to the original ruleset and have been identified as origination from the United States. This is pictorially represented by the presence of a 'breadcrumb' identifying the filter at the top of the page, next to the topic name. To take a filter off of the entire live feed, click the 'x' next to the breadcrumb. As stated previously, the URL, Sentiment, and Types Widgets do not have the filter option. Clicking an entity in any of these graphs will generate a breadcrumb for the entity chosen, without having to click the 'filter' option.
Clicking on the breadcrumb itself can toggle different features of the breadcrumb. Clicking once will cause the breadcrumb to be dimmed. This takes the filter off of the live feed, while keeping the breadcrumb intact for easy access. Clicking a second time results in the filter becoming a NOT filter on the data. Using the previous example, if you clicked the United States breadcrumb twice, the only documents allowed in the feed would be those NOT identified as originating in the United States. This is pictorially represented by the addition of an exclamation point in front of the name of the filter in the breadcrumb. Clicking the breadcrumb a third time restores the filter to the original AND state.
You can save any new filters created to the rule set of the topic by clicking the save icon next to the name of the topic at any time. Doing so will result in the proper syntax for the current filters being added to the current rule set in the Query Box of the topic. A warning message will appear on the screen to notify you that you are overwriting the original rule set to add the new filters. After clicking 'Ok' you can then see the new rule set in the Query Box for the topic on the Topic Overview Page. This is an easy way to build out rule sets and ensure proper syntax.
